As reported by NME, Sir Ian McKellen expressed interest in reprising the role of Gandalf in the TV show when he was being interviewed by BBC's Graham Norton. Why we quite need "Lord of the Rings" as a TV series baffles me slightly. But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it?
Sir Ian McKellen is a screen legend, and playing Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings film franchise is some of his proudest work.
Having worked briefly with disgraced House Of Cards actor Kevin Spacey in 2004, when Spacey was artistic director at the Old Vic in London, Sir Ian, who came out in 1988 to lobby for gay rights in the United Kingdom, added the timing of Spacey's own coming out was not ideal. "That there's going to be another Gandalf in town", Norton remarked.
"I haven't said yes because I haven't been asked", the actor continued.
European Commission opens investigation into IKEA corporate tax structure in the Nethelands
Regulators will assess "if the level of the annual license fee reflects" the company's contribution to the franchise business. Inter IKEA Systems in the Netherlands records all revenue from IKEA franchise fees worldwide collected from the IKEA shops.
"I'm not too old [yet]", McKellen joked. That doesn't necessarily mean that Gandalf won't be involved, just that we're not sure if the character even has a role in the show.
McKellen previously held down the role of Gandalf in all six of the Peter Jackson directed Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.
The series will be a collaborative effort between Amazon Studios, the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. The streaming platform plans to do a prequel to LOTR but other details about the show, such as the writers and cast, as well as the start of production, have not yet been mapped out. Will it live up to J.R.R. Tolkien's story?
That said, the direction of the TV show could be different as it could focus on different characters.
