As per the current schedule detailed on WhatsApp's blog, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 won't be supported after 31 December 2017.
Upon inspecting the entire list of end dates for app users, we found out that the smartphones running on Android 2.3.7 and older won't be able to use the messaging app from February 1, 2020, whereas Nokia phones running Symbian S60 do not have access to WhatsApp since June 30, 2017.
The announcement regarding removing support for outdated mobile platforms was first made in 2016. The Facebook-owned instant messaging app will end support for some smartphone platforms by the end of this year (December 31). The messaging app became unavailable on Nokia phones running Symbian S60, from June 30, 2017.
WhatsApp is planning to bid farewell to certain devices from 31 December onwards according to a blog post.
If you are now working with any of the devices running BlackBerry, BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone 8, you should enjoy messaging to the maximum since you will not be able to work with it from January 1, 2018. Besides, the user base has considerably reduced as a lot of them have skipped Blackberry while the rest have shifted to Windows Phone 10.
In their official statement, the company wrote, "We have chose to not support actively for these platforms and some of the existing features may stop abruptly". This is not the first time that WhatsApp is ending support for old mobile platforms. WhatsApp says these platforms lack the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future.
WhatsApp has stopped working on updates for other OS versions like Windows Phone 7, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and iOS 6 in 2016.
