The deputy leader of Germany's far-right AfD Party, Beatrix von Storch, has come under Cologne police investigation after posting an anti-Muslim tweet on New Year's Eve.

Von Storch hit the roof when Cologne police tweeted a Happy New Year greeting in Arabic.

Twitter and Facebook have since deleted the posts, while Twitter also temporarily suspended Ms Von Storch's account.

Prosecutors in NRW must first decide whether they should deal with the police complaint against von Storch or transfer the case to Berlin authorities given that her constituency is in the capital. Beatrix von Storch wrote in her now-deleted post.

Twitter and Facebook's tough stance came as an anti-online hate speech law went into effect in Germany on January 1.

Rainer Wendt, who heads the right-leaning DpolG union, said that establishing a safe zone sends a "devastating message".

Time for DOJ to act on Abedin, Comey?
Yahoo suffered a massive data breach in 2013, which resulted in every email account held by the company being hacked. The president reacted to the news that Abedin had emailed State Department passwords to a private Yahoo account.

Germany's city Cologne came under controversy when countless women reported sexual assaults and gang assaults over New Year in 2015 allegedly by men from migrant backgrounds, amid the influx of a high number of migrants.

Von Storch, who is deputy chairwoman of the AfD's parliamentary group, claimed the "censorship" meant the end of the rule of law in Germany because Facebook had judged her before the legal process had run its course. "Why did an official police site from North Rhine-Westphalia tweet in Arabic?" Ahead of the festivities, local police published on its social media pages instructions for party-goers with a plea stating: "Celebrate peacefully, show respect".

Companies now have 24 hours to remove posts that breach German law after they are flagged by users.

Another AfD lawmaker is also being investigated after supporting Ms Von Storch. If so, they could face fines or a prison sentence.

Von Storch told Breitbart that the NetzDG "is a direct attack on freedom of speech in the social media", adding that the German Government "introduced this law to purge the social media of undesired opinions, in particular criticism of Merkel's immigration and refugee policy".

She has been equally vocal about eradicating Islam from Germany.
