The mission will see the aerospace company launch a spy satellite into orbit using its Delta IV rocket.

The United Launch Alliance scheduled to launch a rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. It had been scheduled to launch Thursday, but a problem with the ground system valve forced a one-day delay, with a window for the launching opening at 1 p.m. Friday. The National Reconnaissance Office is a U.S. Government agency which has been given the charge to design, build and launch and maintain America's fleet of spy satellites. This week's launch will be ULA's 27th mission for the NRO.

The original launch date was Wednesday, but was pushed back until Thursday due to weather.

The Delta IV family of launch vehicles combines design simplicity, manufacturing efficiency, and streamlined mission and vehicle integration to meet customer requirements to launch high-priority U.S. Air Force (USAF), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), NASA, and commercial payloads to orbit.

Founded in 2006, ULA is a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

Notable targets include eliminating all avoidable waste by 2050 and all avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042. So far, nine billion fewer plastic bags have been used as a direct outcome of introducing the charge.

The launch was then delayed by about an hour due to a ground system helium issue.

The same policy was in place last Sunday when SpaceX launched a classified satellite known as Zuma atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral.

The new time - 9pm GMT, Friday, January 12 - will hopefully be when the rocket takes off. "Latest weather briefing shows an 80% chance of favorable weather".

The launch will happen at Space Launch Complex-6, which sits about 140 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. "We are proud to provide this national defense capability, and every Team V member involved has tirelessly worked to ensure the launch is safe and successful".
