Today, Elton John announced his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, a 300-date victory lap to cap off a 25-plus-year career.

Elton, who has two children, Elijah and Zachary, with husband David Furnish, previously admitted that he would one day end touring to spend more time with his family.

The tour is called "Farewell Yellow Brick Road", and it starts September 8.

But his tour is due to bring him to Australia and New Zealand in late 2019 and early 2020 and feature dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. "Performing live fuels me and I'm ecstatic and humbled to continue to play to audiences across the globe", said John in a press release. We had children and it changed our lives.

"My priorities have changed", he told guests. "But I won't travel any more". "I'm 71. I can't physically do the traveling anymore". Maybe I want to have more time with my boys. My priorities have changed in my life. I want to see friends. "You can FaceTime all you want but it's not the same as being with them".

Elton John announced he will perform his final tour, which will include 300 concerts.

"It will take three years probably".

Elton also insisted he will still make music and record, including work on musicals.

"I've had a good run".

A natural entertainer, Sir Elton went on to tour all over the world, rarely spending long without hitting the road with his band.

There was recently a grand piano set up at London's Kings Cross Station, where fans could play with an augmented reality version of the singer. And although the performer was hospitalized previous year after catching a "rare and potentially deadly" bacterial infection at the end of his South American tour, he says that his decision to retire has nothing to do with his health.

In March 2017 he spent two night in intensive care after picking up a "potentially deadly" bug during his tour in South America.

The star is expected to reveal plans for a new venture after his Las Vegas residency ends in May after six years.

"It is truly an honor to be associated with Elton John, one of music and pop culture's most legendary, innovative and unrivaled performers", said Jay Marciano, Chairman and CEO, AEG Presents, promoters of the "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour.
