Trump Targets Hezbollah with New Sanctions

The remarks came after the US Treasury broadened sanctions on Friday targeting Lebanese Hezbollah's financial network in the Middle East and Africa in a bid to crack down on revenue streams the US claims the resistance movement uses to fund its "illicit operations".

The US has levied sanctions against people and businesses in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Lebanon over their alleged links to Hezbollah.

Senior Trump administration officials said the sanctions were part of an aggressive move against Hezbollah to try to limit the influence of Iran, which gives the group about $700 million a year to help finance its activities. Tabaja has been the target of previous USA sanctions.

General Heidari said Iran supports regional states which have stood up against the terrorist groups and crises created by the U.S. and its allies in the region.

Hezbollah, which the US says has financed terrorism in Syria and Yemen, depends on its ally Iran for more than $700 million a year, said an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity. USA officials say Tehran provides Hezbollah an estimated $700 million a year. "It is also Iran's primary proxy used to undermine legitimate Arab governments across the Middle East", Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.

Durant Downplays LeBron to the Warriors
The comment came after a report said James would consider meeting with the Warriors in free agency if they had max cap space. For starters, the Warriors have no chance to sign James outright as a free agent due to their current payroll.

Trump officials said more sanctions would be coming against Hezbollah, the results of an investigation into the group that President Donald Trump ordered last summer.

The Treasury Department sanctioned five Lebanese and one Iraqi, most of whom were associated with Al-Inmaa Engineering and Contracting, a company headquartered in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.

More such targeted sanctions are expected in the months ahead, they said. The construction company is mostly active in predominantly Shi'ite areas in Lebanon such as Beirut's southern suburbs and the southern town of Nabatiyeh. Most of the individuals targeted had not been publicly known to be Hezbollah financiers and are not prominent names in Lebanon.

The sanctions aim to squeeze Tabaja, who the U.S. has already labeled a global terrorist and is thought to be one of Hezbollah's top five funders.

It will be a "very bad day for" Tabaja, said a senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
