Turkish General Staff on Saturday informed that around 900 terrorists were "neutralised" in an operation against the insurgents in Syria's Afrin region.

The Turkish military has suffered the deadliest day in its current offensive against Kurdish militias inside Syria, with seven soldiers killed.

Earlier on Saturday, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement that the Turkish Armed Forces had destroyed 15 terrorist targets and neutralized 74 terrorists in overnight airstrikes. The seventh one was killed in a YPG attack on the border, without giving further details.

Turkey has now lost 14 soldiers in fierce clashes during the offensive. The suspect who was killed had entered Turkey illegally and received training from a branch of the Syrian Kurdish PYD group, the governor's office said.

The statement said the air operation targeted terrorists in Sheikh Haruz, northeast of Afrin, and was launched at 5.52 p.m. local time (1452GMT).

"We want to sound the alarm because the Kurds in Afrin have fought against the Islamic State and are being massacred today".

The Turkish military campaign against Afrin started in January, aiming to eliminate the Kurdish forces on the Syrian-Turkish border.

Turkish guards at the border with Syria are indiscriminately shooting at and summarily returning asylum seekers attempting to cross into Turkey, Human Rights Watch said. The group also reported that Kurdish fighters struck a vehicle inflicting casualties among Turkey-backed fighters.

"As fighting in Idlib and Afrin displaces thousands more", Fakih said, "the number of Syrians trapped along the border willing to risk their lives to reach Turkey is only likely to increase".
