Los Angeles prosecutors are reviewing three accusations of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein, a step towards possible criminal charges for the movie producer, a spokesman for the county District Attorney's office said on Thursday.
The three newer cases were referred to the DA on February 1, but an announcement wasn't made until a week later, the broadcaster reported. Beverly Hills police separately presented two cases to prosecutors in December.
While there is no longer a statute of limitations on sex crimes in the state of California, that only applies to acts committed after the beginning of 2017.
The announcement comes as Weinstein faces similar investigations into his widespread sexual abuse in New York City and London.
A spokeswoman for Weinstein did not immediately respond to requests for comment and an attorney for the producer could not immediately be reached for comment.
The veteran producer, who is reportedly in treatment for sexual addiction as he faces parallel investigations by the police in NY and London, has repeatedly denied having non-consensual sex.
