He stalked Justice Shetty's office and since it was a lunch break and as there were not many people around, he allegedly walked in and attacked the Lokayukta. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, quite taken aback rushed into the hospital to pay a visit to Shetty in person. Advocate Jay Anna, who witnessed the assault, said the attack was pre-planned as the attacker had came to the Lokayukta office carrying a knife. He had a big weapon in his hand. The initial response of the ruling party Congress spokesman (as quoted in sections of the media) is to maintain that the stabbing of the state's highest anti-corruption Constitutional functionary is not a security lapse!
The Vidhan Soudha police have registered a case and are investigating.
Amid reports of a security breach, Siddaramaiah said he had asked police to look into it and take action. It has been found that the accused had complained against 15-17 public servants in connection with supply of furniture.
"I have spoken to (Commissioner of Police) T. Suneel Kumar who informed me that he (Shetty) has been shifted to a private hospital". The accused reportedly went inside the office by claiming he wanted to speak to the Lokayukta. While addressing the press, he said an inquiry would be conducted.
