Both of Florida's legislative chambers passed the law, which would set up a so-called guardian program that would permit employees' firearm possession after agreed to undergo law enforcement training.

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter was among the 17 killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, said he was asked to stay in Tallahassee in order to meet with Scott on Friday.

Imposes a three-day waiting period on all gun sales.

Student activists from the school called it "a baby step".

BOOKER: Sure. Now, before he signed the bill, Governor Scott thanked parents who lost children in the shooting for their help in getting the bill across the finish line. Republican Sen. Marco Rubio said the same.

STUDENT BUSING: The Martin County school district creates a plan to transport students living along hazardous walking routes, and leaders say it would be too expensive, TC Palm reports.

The national anthem's messages have recently been exposed as racist, with several high schools banning it entirely, and I believe its messages of freedom are just as outdated.

The Legislature delivered the bill to Scott on Thursday.

Even Scott admitted Friday he wasn't fully satisfied with the bill - but said that compromise was important in getting legislation passed before legislators ended their annual session this week.

The National Rifle Association expressed disappointment regarding the gun-control provisions contained in a bill that was signed into law today in Florida.

The bill creates the guardian program that would enable school employees and many teachers to carry guns if they go through law enforcement training and their school districts agree to participate. The state law is being dubbed the Marjory Stoneman #Douglas High School #Public Safety Act.

The organization also contends federal law already prevents many Americans 21 or younger from buying certain types of guns.

An NRA lobbyist has called the bill "a display of bullying and coercion" that violates the Second Amendment and punishes law-abiding citizens.

Florida's law unconstitutionally broadens those limits, the CNN quoted the NRA as saying.

Rick Scott has signed legislation tightening gun restrictions in the state.

While the bill won't please all sides, Scott said he was proud of the collaborative process that occurred to make it happen.

The governor has supported the bill since its formulation. Make no mistake, this will make schools unsafe for Black and Brown students.

To say what's followed in the weeks since the latest mass shooting in the United States has alarmed me would be an understatement.

Lawyer Jim Lewis said Thursday that Cruz asked the son of James and Kimberly Snead which classroom he was in and who his teacher was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School just before opening fire February 14.

He is also charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder.

Cruz's public defender has said he will plead guilty if prosecutors take the death penalty off the table and sentence him to life in prison instead.

Prosecutors have not announced a decision. But it took police more than three hours before they found the dead shooters. "Oh my God. Oh my God", the mother says, raising her voice.
