India thus got consolation revenge for the 2-3 loss to Ireland in their last league stage match on Friday which had eliminated their already slim chances of qualifying for the medal rounds.

Now India is in fifth position with four points.

India began the third quarter with a penalty in the 32nd minute.

The world's top-ranked team finished the tournament, which included Commonwealth Games opponents England, Malaysia and India, with six wins from six games.

Amit Rohidas gave India a silver lining to come back into the match scoring two back to back goals in the 26th and 31st minute of the match.

It was O'Donoghue who claimed the equaliser as he calmly placed the ball past the oncoming keeper; following a pinpoint pass from Chris Cargo to start the move and a skilful slip from Kirk Shimmins to the waiting O'Donoghue.

Bobby Crutchley's team then enjoyed a prolonged spell of possession as they tried to force an equaliser and it nearly came in the 44th minute as Chris Griffiths did well to control a terrific Mark Gleghorne pass, but his bullet strike rippled the netting on the wrong side of the post.

India earned another penalty corner in the 50th minute and another one towards the dying minutes of the match, but it failed to make use of both the opportunities.

A foot foul by Dipsan Tirkey saw India concede a PC only 15 seconds prior to the half-time hooter but Suraj Karkera was on top of his job to save the PC. Ireland's lone goal came from Julian Dale in the 48th minute.

Their hardwork bore fruit when they won a penalty corner with Lee Cole giving his team the shock lead in the 42nd minute.

The young lad from Sundergarh, Odisha ensured he didn't miss out on the opportunity as he beat Ireland's goalkeeper Jamie Carr, doubling India's lead to 2-0.

Australia took the lead in a tightly contested game when Blake Govers drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from a penalty corner.
