Race to the wire in Pittsburgh: Trump embarrassment or close call?

Hillary Clinton didn't perform well in the 18th Congressional District of Pennsylvania but Democrats could have the last laugh in what is now a toss-up congressional race Democrats Hate America, Trump, and God, Rick Saccone Says

Saccone is in a surprisingly competitive race against Democrat Conor Lamb in a Pittsburgh-area district that Trump won by 20 percentage points in 2016.

In four polls taken in the district this month, Lamb led in three of them, though the spread in all four was within the margin of error.

Voters are going to the polls today in Pennsylvania's 18th District to decide between Democrat Conor Lamb and Republican Rick Saccone in a uncharacteristically close race in the deeply Republican district. But the scandal-driven resignation of former Rep. Tim Murphy - a Republican who had not even drawn a Democratic challenger in his last two races - gave Democrats an opening, and Lamb raced through it.

"They say the other side is energized".

The White House did much more for Saccone, sending in Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, and White House advisers Kellyanne Conway and Ivanka Trump.

Lamb, on the other hand, "is the ideal candidate for that seat", said Jack Posobiec, a fellow MAGA-ite and Pennsylvania native, describing Lamb as a "Pro-Trump Dem veteran".

Democrat Conor Lamb's campaign aides and volunteers are downright bubbly when you speak to them, clearly aware that their candidate has made major strides in this deep-red district, win or lose. Instead, the race has been widely interpreted as a bellwether for midterm elections. The conventional wisdom about the race is that the Democrats chose an outstanding candidate in Conor Lamb, while the Republicans backed a dud in Rick Saccone, whom prominent Republicans, up to and including the president, have been trashing on background for the past week. "Smartly, he has not turned this race into a referendum on Mr. Trump's popularity, which has been a losing proposition in other races, including in the 2016 presidential election", the Times said.

In the final weeks, Republicans pivoted away from that approach, attacking Lamb's record as a federal prosecutor and targeting Democratic voters to say that Lamb did not share their values on gun rights or the minimum wage.

There is no automatic recount on the congressional district level in Pennsylvania, according to state law.

He said his accomplishments, like the president's weren't being fairly reported. And largely from outside GOP groups supporting Saccone.

On the other hand, PPP leadership also held a meeting and discussed various options for Senate elections. His election as the first-ever Senate chairman from Balochistan marked the day's second historic moment.

Trump has put his full force behind Saccone.

"If I came like a stiff, you guys wouldn't come here tonight", he said.

Lamb answered the critique by saying he won't support Pelosi as floor leader, much less a return to the speaker's rostrum.

"We need our Congressman Saccone, we have to have him".

Lamb embraced Democratic orthodoxy on the new GOP tax law, hammering it as a giveaway to corporations at the future expense of Social Security, Medicare and the nation's fiscal security.

So Lamb's going to win for sure, right?

Lamb has mostly avoided mentioning Trump, who remains generally popular in the district even if slightly diminished from his 2016 dominance.

The AFL-CIO counts 87,000 voters from union households - around a fifth of the electorate.

Saccone has been a state lawmaker since 2010, while Lamb hasn't run for office before. "I said, 'I got $90".

So, Clinton describes Trump voters as backward, bigoted, racist and misogynistic and the 52 percent of the white female voters who supported him as timid housewives cowed by the men in their lives. Few, if any, of the articles dedicated to the rally on sites like Breitbart and the Daily Caller attempted to extol the virtues of Saccone. "I'll work with anyone from either party who wants to help people with pre-existing conditions, improve the quality of care, and reduce premiums, out-of-pocket costs, and prescription drug prices", he says on his campaign website. Lamb has also said he would not support an assault weapons ban and that, although he is personally pro-life, he wouldn't support a 20-week abortion ban.
