Verstappen blames horsepower surge for crash Motor racing-Mercedes' Hamilton simply hoping for progress in Bahrain GP

World champion Lewis Hamilton questions Max Verstappen's maturity. There are 19 more races until the end of the season.

Lewis Hamilton didn't mince words over the radio to let Mercedes F1 team know how he felt during the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who spun in Melbourne a fortnight ago and crashed out of qualifying here, was then forced to retire from the race following his collision with Hamilton.

The defending champion, who will fulfil sponsorship commitments on Tuesday and Wednesday, was victorious in China past year and will be desperate to get his title charge back on track following two winless rubbers.

Bahrain, on the other hand, was well deserved with Ferrari having outpaced Mercedes throughout the course of the race weekend.

The Mercedes driver escaped without damage, but Verstappen suffered a broken wheel and a puncture, while a differential failure caused his retirement.

The next race is in less than a weeks' time at the Shanghai International Circuit, China, and Hamilton is keen to get back to winning ways on circuit where he has won five times in the past.

"We'll see how that is reliability-wise but car-wise they are on par with us and this weekend they are ahead of us".

'I have an idea' - Guardiola plots new defensive strategy for Liverpool clash
We have very often created a lot of chances in short period of time and we have to be clinical. Defend well with our goalkeeper making saves", Guardiola said.

"I had a good run out of the last corner so I went for the inside", Verstappen told Sky F1.

"It looked as though we were a bit quicker than the rest but at this point I wouldn't draw any conclusions", Vettel said.

Vettel, 30, now leads Hamilton by 17 points with 19 more races to go.

"Obviously the [grid] penalty this weekend was hard for us all to swallow, but I think the team did a really good job".

Verstappen, surprisingly, has not hit back.

The world champion insisted that he had conceded the corner and left the Dutchman room to get safely past.

Verstappen retired from the race due to damage done to his auto while passing Hamilton on the inside at Turn 1 on the second lap, the world champion later accusing him of showing a lack of respect. "He'd just got out of the auto".

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the clash had been a "racing incident", agreeing with the race stewards' verdict that, after an investigation, no action was required.
