Justice Eileen Bransten decided Thursday that 200 Riverside Blvd. is under no legal obligation to keep the President's name on the facade

The Trump Place, a high-rise at 200 Riverside Boulevard, on Manhattan's Upper West Side, would become at least the seventh building worldwide since the 2016 election to remove Trump's name from its facade, joining other NY structures and hotels in Canada and Panama.
Judge Bransten ruled that just because the licensing agreement allowed the building's owners to use the Trump name, it did not require them to do so.
In response, the condo board sued the Trump Organization. Condo board lawyer Harry Lipman declined to comment.
Lawyers for the president's real estate company argued that a 2000 licensing agreement called for the name to remain there in perpetuity.
Trump's company has said Trump Place is obligated to keep the name on view and signaled Thursday that it plans to press on.

The once ubiquitous Trump brand has become divisive since Trump entered the presidential campaign. The board wants New York Justice Eileen Bransten to determine: Does that licensing agreement require it to put up signs with Trump's name?
According to a copy of the residents' complaint obtained by HuffPost, the legal battle over the giant brass-finished lettering on the building's exterior ignited shortly after Trump's inauguration in 2017. The ruling opens the way for the 377 unit-owners at 200 Riverside Boulevard to formally vote on a question that numerous other properties have considered: should the T-word should stay, or should it go?
Already, the Trump name has come down from three former "Trump Place" buildings in Manhattan, as well as Trump-branded hotels in New York, Toronto and Panama. At that time, 63 percent of condo owners who responded wanted to remove the Trump sign.
