GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories - Israeli occupation forces killed three Palestinians on Sunday while they attempted to cross into Israel from the Gaza strip, Israel said.

Israel also struck a facility of the Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers overnight, the movement's military wing said on Sunday, with Israel occupation forces claiming it was reacting to "kite-borne fire bombings".

Gaza's health ministry identified two of the casualties as Abdel Rahman Qudeih, 23, and Mohammed Abu Rayda, 20.

Doctors at the emergency room of al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza Strip said they received the bodies of five Palestinians who were killed in the explosion and six others were wounded.

On the following day, Palestinians mark the "nakba", or catastrophe, to commemorate the anniversary of their mass uprooting during the 1948 war over Israel's creation.

At one of the funeral processions, Hamas Politburo Chairman Ismail Haniyeh said the Kassam members who died in the explosion "saved hundreds of lives" and "preserved the resistance's security depth".

Israel has come under worldwide criticism, including from the United Nations and the European Union, for the use of lethal force against unarmed protesters. Although some protesters have targeted Israeli troops with stones and set tires on fire, trying to approach the fence in the thick smoke, the protests have been largely peaceful.

At least 41 Palestinians have been killed since protests broke out on the 30th March, and thousands more have been injured.

It accuses Hamas of seeking to use the protests as cover to carry out violence.

Israel withdrew its troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005.

"Last night in the Gaza Strip", the spokeswoman told AFP referring to the timing of the strike, without describing the target.

But Hamas now says the militants, including two commanders, were killed "dismantling booby-trapped spying equipment planted by Israel during the past decade in Gaza".
