Trump lauds NFL as anthem rule raises more questions

Steelers' Art Rooney: Anthem policy won't 'satisfy everyone' Nicki Jhabvala explains Broncos' reactions to NFL anthem policy

If the national anthem is this critical to the NFL, networks can refrain from trying to tell viewers what auto they should buy, what financial advisor they should use or which IT products they should purchase, for just a few minutes.

If the NFL quashed the protests, then people in favor of allowing the demonstrations to happen would claim that a league of predominantly black players and white team owners was choosing to stifle the opinions of minorities, one of the very issues the players said they were protesting.

"When you stoke the fire and inflame a gap that was really dissipating at the time ... you cause more problems", he said of the league's decision to enforce a policy, according to The Associated Press.

After all, once mandatory minicamps end in mid-June, teams don't get together again until training camps open in late July.

The almost two-year nightmare for the sport that had become America's game in the 1970s began when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the national anthem at a preseason game on August 14, 2016.

"I think the way it's labeled as this compromise is ridiculous", Jhabvala said. "At the same time, we are working on a lot of social justice in our community". Owners Jerry Jones of the Cowboys and Robert McNair of the Texans have been among the staunchest advocates of no exceptions to standing during the anthem. Other players followed suit, and many fans balked.

"I think that's the difference between patriotism and nationalism", he said. "I don't think people should be staying in locker rooms but still I think it's good", Trump told Fox News in an interview taped on Wednesday and broadcast on Thursday.

The statement announcing the change said the National Football League had "reaffirmed their strong commitment to work alongside our players to strengthen our communities and advance social justice".

China to cut car import tariffs as trade war fears recede
The president is now planning a summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un in June, though North Korea has threatened to cancel. Several farm-state lawmakers expressed relief that a damaging round of tariffs is - for now - no longer on the horizon.

Not so for any league personnel such as game officials, sideline crews, et al.

And if "The Star-Spangled Banner" matters so much to the National Football League, shouldn't all four verses be sung? It was the continuation of a movement started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was the first to remain seated or kneel during the anthem two years ago.

Christopher Johnson, chief executive of the New York Jets, has already said the team would not pass along any fines to its players because "I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players".

The new policy was issued after a meeting of the 32 billionaire and millionaire owners of the various teams. Or if that is even the proper description. "Yeah, they can still pout in the locker room to their heart's content, but at least we proud Americans don't have to watch them disrespect our country on the field anymore".

It was the 22nd United States school shooting incident of 2018 and that doesn't last year's Las Vegas shooting where 58 people were killed or the 2016 Pulse nightclub attack in Orlando where 49 were killed - one where a moment of silence was held before an NBA Finals game involving the Warriors.

Lance Price, 25, said kneeling wasn't about being patriotic or not patriotic, and called patriotism "an excuse" to avoid real conversations about racism. "I know when we talked to Brandon Marshall previous year, he certainly stood by his decision to do it and he still believes in his reasons for doing it". Lions guard T.J. Lang tweeted "Or just the guys who do it this year because there is now a rule?" I don't want to come down on them like a ton of bricks, and I won't.

"I'm not sure how that is so hard for someone to figure out", he said. "And I understand that from a business perspective trying to be socially responsible".
