Spot-fixing allegations made against India-Australia Test, CA wants proof

Al Jazeera nabs match-fixers in the act at Galle stadium Al Jazeera urged to hand over cricket fixing evidence

Among the cricketing involvements are the youngest ever Test debutant Hasan Raza and three Sri Lankan worldwide representatives - Dilhara Lokuhettige, Jeevantha Kulatunga and Tharindu Mendis - all of them have been reported to have indulgence in spot-fixing or tampering with the pitch to determine the result of the match in a particular time frame.

The Australian newspaper is reporting that Al Jazeera will air a documentary that claims the pitch used in Australia's two-and-a-half days Galle demolition was orchestrated by criminals.

In the program, titled Cricket's Match-Fixers, a man names two Australian players to an undercover reporter who he claims agreed to score at a slow rate to influence how many runs were scored in a period that was being bet on in illegal markets.

The PCB said that its Anti Corruption Unit is in "process of reviewing reports regarding the alleged involvement of cricketer Raza in corrupt conduct". Both matches were played at Galle International Stadium.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already launched an investigation, saying it took the allegations reported in the documentary "very seriously" and urged "all evidence and supporting material" to be shared with the investigators.

He said that they are concentrating on the cricket ahead of the second Test against Pakistan after losing Sunday's first Test, adding: "All the players have been briefed by the European Central Bank, and been told there's absolutely nothing to worry about".

Joe Root, England's Test Captain, described the allegations against his team as "ridiculous".

"As a group of players we've got to focus on (the second Test) next week, making sure we prepare well, and let the people in charge look after this - because I'm sure it's nothing".

Mendis says other ways to fool pitch inspectors sent to every global match by the sport's governing body, the worldwide Cricket Council (ICC), include watering the pitch for half as long as necessary and using a special "brush" during the game itself.

Tom Harrison, the chief executive of the European Central Bank, told The Times the players have the board's full support.

Cricket Australia (CA) says it is not aware of any "credible evidence linking Australian players to corruption in the game" ahead of the broadcast of a documentary investigating spot fixing allegations.

The ECB, who have seen the documentary, put out a statement through chief executive Tom Harrison: "There is nothing we have seen that would make us doubt any of our players in any way whatsoever".

The "spot fixes" were allegedly carried out in matches between India and England in Chennai in December 2016 and India and Australia at Ranchi in March previous year.

"They emphatically deny the allegations, have stated categorically that the claims are false and they have our full support".

According to media reports, the documentary footage features Robin Morris, a former professional cricketer from Mumbai, Tharindu Mendis, a professional cricketer from Colombo, and Tharanga Indika, the curator at Galle International Stadium.
