Officials deny the claims and say that the vehicle was surrounded by a crowd of angry young men, some of whom fell beneath the jeep-like auto when they tried to pull the soldiers out and lynch them.

The death of a 22-year-old man, Qaiser Amin Bhat, who died after a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle ran over him at Nowhatta in Srinagar on Friday might serve as a big blow to the ongoing Ramzan ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir.

Eye-witnesses told Al Jazeera that two young protesters were mowed down by the paramilitary vehicle after Friday prayers at Nowhatta locality in Srinagar outside the region's grand mosque - a focal point for many protests.

Earlier, last month, a man was killed when Indian forces' vehicle deliberately drover over him during clashes in Safa Kadal area of Srinagar in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to eyewitnesses, the boys, identified as Younis Ahmed and Qaiser Butt, were rushed to a hospital where the latter succumbed to his injuries. The JRL said, "They (security forces) are killing Kashmiris either by bullets, pellets or lately crushing them under their vehicles". Three CRPF personnel and a woman were injured here.

Most Kashmiris support the rebels' cause while also participating in civilian street protests against Indian control.

An Associated Press photographer captured the horror in a series of photographs of the other injured man, who doctors say is still in critical condition. He along with his sisters was living with his aunt in Dalgate area of Srinagar for the past four years as both his parents had died.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah targeted Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti following the incident. Now they just drive their jeeps right over protesters.

Clashes broke out after police used force to stop the march as it was on its way to a graveyard in the city of Srinagar to bury Kaisar Ahmad Bhat.

Authorities placed chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence to prevent his participation in the funeral procession. "We showed exemplary restraint by not opening fire but when the mob pelted us with stones, our driver sped through the crowd and they (two youth) were hit".

Police said the CRPF driver had been charged with risky driving.
