Warriors not expecting LeBron James and Co. to lose edge

Curry hedge NBA: Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson fined but not suspended over incident

JR Smith's blunder at the end of Game 1 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors may go down as a moment that could end up defining the whole 2018 NBA Finals series, and the decision by Smith to do what he did has confused a lot of people.

While it may seem like too bold of a prediction to call for Smith to drop 20 points on the Warriors, the Cavaliers need a third scorer to step up behind James and Kevin Love, and Smith needs to make a statement to prove he's over the Game 1 disappointment. James scored 51 points during a thoroughly dominating effort, but the Cavs couldn't overcome some late miscues. However, the Cavaliers' performance has given fans hope that this series could be more competitive than originally predicted.

Smith maintained that the Cavs remain optimistic heading into Game 2 on Sunday.

"I might have said that", Smith said. "I think maybe you guys have us more demoralized than we have ourselves, so we're focusing on ourselves".

"I can't meet him outside of (the arena), because I'll still get fined", he said according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

Seventy-two hours after The Mistake, he'll get the chance in Game 2 Sunday night. That does nothing for us, or for me.

What Gareth Southgate Can Learn From Previous World Cup Warm-up Games
Jordan Pickford played the full 90 minutes in Saturday's 2-1 win over Nigeria . If we can combine those together in the flawless way then we can go far.

Smith was also asked if he remembered telling an irate LeBron, "I thought we were ahead", after the clock expired, as it appeared he said in a camera angle captured by the broadcast of the game. "If we're going to be that petty to do that, so be it". "That does nothing for us, or for me". Windhorst also cited basketball pundit David Thorpe, who posted on Twitter: "Here's what I saw on the Curry-LeBron exchange: Bron got the block". I'm going to keep taking care of my family.

Smith became one of the big Game 1 stories for all the wrong reasons.

"I expect us to come and play with the same grit we had in Game 2". But despite that, they only led by four points as LeBron James were able to stick right with them, thanks in large part to their ability to get to the free-throw line. "But feeling the game, how each game might be different, that goes into focus".

James said his left eye, which was bloodied when Warriors forward Draymond Green poked it as James drove to the basket in Game One, felt better even if it did not look that way.

The injury occurred with 6:15 left in the first quarter when Cleveland's J.R. Smith lost his footing and barreled into Thompson along the sideline.
