His latest comments come on the heels of the publication of a 20-page confidential letter sent by Trump's lawyers to Mueller arguing that the president can not legally obstruct justice in the Russian Federation investigation due to his position as "chief law enforcement officer".
That's because, as the country's chief law enforcement officer, Trump himself has ultimate control of the Justice Department and executive branch. A person familiar with the letter confirmed its authenticity.
Additionally they spelled out intimately why the firing of James Comey, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, and different key moments being scrutinised don't quantity to obstruction of justice.
The letter is dated January 29 and addressed to Mueller from John Dowd, a Trump lawyer who has since resigned from the legal team.
"This is the reason you don't let the president testify", Giuliani told ABC.
The White House provided tens of thousands of documents to the special counsel's office.
Mr Trump also said he was considering pardoning lifestyle maven Martha Stewart and commuting the prison sentence of former IL governor Rod Blagojevich, convicted of corruption charges. Giuliani, at first, expressed confidence that he could resolve the matter within weeks.
The special counsel has racked up almost $10 million in expenditures during the latest six-month accounting period, bringing the total cost of Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential campaign almost $17 million. They said that because of those demands on Mr. Trump's time, the special counsel's office should have to clear a higher bar to get him to talk. In the letter, President Trump's attorneys noted the "unprecedented access and voluntary cooperation in the collection of all documents requested from the White House, the Donald J. Trump For President Inc., and individual witnesses".
"When I chose to [fire Comey], I said to myself, you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story by the Democrats", Trump told Holt.
The president also tweeted on Saturday that the USA must be treated "fairly" in trade.
"We have maintained a consistent legal argument throughout the many months of this inquiry". Giuliani has said that the president's legal team believes the special counsel does not have the authority to do so. "We continue to maintain cooperative relations with the office of special counsel", he said.
In addition to the legal battles, Trump's team and allies have waged a public relations campaign against Mueller and the Justice Department to discredit the investigation and soften the impact of the special counsel's potential findings.
It argued that Mr Trump is the country's "chief law enforcement officer" and therefore claims of obstructing justice "would amount to him obstructing himself".
Mr Trump has not been shy about using his pardon power. At the time, Rosenstein also wrote his own memo criticizing Comey's handling of the Clinton case.
Both Russia and Mr Trump deny collusion, and the President has denied obstructing the probe.
A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment.
