Warriors, Cavaliers say they're not going to White House

Costello was not alone in denouncing Trump's last-minute decision to cancel a celebration of the 2017 Super Bowl champions that was scheduled to take place Tuesday at the White House.

On the day the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to be visiting the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl championship, participants in the 2018 NBA Finals ripped President Donald Trump and made it clear the NBA champion won't be going to White House, either. 'It's typical of him, ' James said of Trump.

"No one wants the invite anyway", James told reporters Tuesday. "Winning [a championship] is way bigger than getting invited to the White House, especially with him in there".

James and the Cavaliers are now down 0-2 in their best-of-seven series against the Golden State Warriors. "I think that's powerful, being in this situation".

President Donald Trump has framed the decision around the national anthem and his repeated arguments that NFL players should be required to stand on the field when the song is played before games.

James, who is facing the Warriors in the finals, told reporters that the victor of the series would not be going to the White House.

Pavic and Dabrowski will face Demi Schuurs and Matwe Middelkoop of the Netherlands in Monday's quarter-finals. With the win, Zverev ended his wait for a maiden Major last-eight appearance at his 12th attempt .

The Cavaliers' LeBron James and the Warriors' Stephen Curry both separately stated that should their team win the championship, they will not visit the White House. It would be no surprise if he rescinded the invite to either team before the series even came to an end. Trump has often blasted the NFL players who have kneeled for the national anthem, a protest that started in 2016 when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick did so to protest racism and more specifically the killing of black men by police.

Trump pulled the Warriors' invitation just a day after a rally in Alabama where he had called for NFL players to be fired if they kneeled during the national anthem. Some Warriors said they would not attend a White House ceremony a year ago, shortly after Golden State won the NBA Finals.

The NFL Network initially reported the Eagles planned to send a small contingent of players and officials for the celebration, since numerous players did not wish to go.

Typically, tickets to White House celebrations for sports champions are highly coveted commodities.

With criticism mounting throughout the morning Tuesday, the White House issued a statement defending its decision because Eagles players had "abandoned" their fans.
