The Manbij roadmap was announced after a meeting in Washington between Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Turkish and USA soldiers have started independent patrols in northern Syria along the line separating Turkish-controlled areas from the town of Manbij where Ankara says Kurdish militia fighters are based, Turkey's military said on Monday.

Turkey said it had started military patrols in an area around the Kurdish-held city of Manbij, in line with an agreement with the United States to scale down tensions in the region.

Armoured vehicles belonging to the Turkish army were stationed around Sajur river which runs through the town of Jarabulus, in the area where Operation Euphrates Shield took place and Manbij. The YPG/PKK is its Syrian branch.

Turkey's armed forces confirmed the American and Turkish "independent patrol activities" via Twitter earlier in the day.

Thirty thousand Syrians who have been granted Turkish citizenship will vote in Sunday's presidential and parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim was quoted as saying on Tuesday by broadcaster NTV.

'Turkey is a main driving force to end conflicts, build trust and humanitarian aid, it is the key country in all matters related to Syria, included the return of its citizens home, ' the foreign minister said.

Turkey considers the YPG an extension of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has waged an insurgency since the 1980s.

Should the model prove a success, Turkey has said it will push for a similar arrangement in eastern Syria.
