MoviePass and AMC have been at odds ever since MoviePass lowered its subscription cost to the $9.95 a month plan. With AMC Stubs, moviegoers can reserve tickets for upcoming movies on their phone, but MoviePass is same day only.
For $19.95 a month, Stubs A-List members can watch up to three movies a week.
How does AMC Stubs A-List Work?
AMC is estimating that subscription members will see an average of 2.5 movies a month. Subscribers can make three reservations per week, and they can do so at any time, allowing you to schedule out your film night (or nights) in advance.

Stubs A-List includes the same perks of AMC's existing Stubs Insider loyalty program.
MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe told BI that "At certain times for certain films-on opening weekend-there could be an additional charge for films". MoviePass is a monthly subscription service that allows users to go to "Any theater". MoviePass now only works on normal 2D showings. It's important to recognize that they will only be able to service 23% of the nation's theaters and MoviePass subscribers get a better deal in more than 91% of them, including AMC. The theater chain expects the service could cost the company $5-10 million in ticket revenue in the next six months, but that those losses are worth future gains. It closed June 19 trading at 44 cents per share. Since MoviePass slashed its monthly fee, questions have mounted over the long-term viability of its economic model. Theaters and MoviePass have a contentious relationship - MoviePass at one point pulled out of some AMC theaters earlier this year and AMC threatened legal action against MoviePass after the service shifted its pricing model. Twice the price for a quarter the theater network and 60% fewer movies. Parent company Helios and Matheson Analytics said in an SEC filing that it may require a new capital injection of over $1.2 billion to stay afloat, which may be a tough ask for a company that shows no sign of ever generating a profit.
MoviePass just threw some serious shade at AMC Theaters.
