Making a Murderer's Brendan Dassey appeal is rejected by US Supreme Court

SCOTUS won't hear same-sex wedding flower case ‘Making A Murderer’ Subject Denied U.S. Supreme Court Appeal

Supreme Court ordered Washington state courts Monday to take a new look at the case of a florist who refused to provide services for a same-sex wedding, in light of the justices' recent ruling in a similar case involving a Colorado baker.

The Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission applauded the Supreme Court's order. State of Washington and Arlene's Flowers v. Ingersoll.

But the four liberals on the high court strongly disagreed.

The Court ruled on June 4 that the state of Colorado erred when it punished a baker for refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. The Supreme Court order gives Stutzman a chance to prove she was the victim of religious hostility. "T$3 here is no indication that there were flaws in the application of civil rights law in [Stutzman's case]".

"The Supreme Court's decision Monday not to take the case leaves in place a lower court ruling against Brendan Dassey. We hope to get this case back before the U.S. Supreme Court next term, in time for fair districts for 2020".

ADF noted that in the U.S. Supreme Court's Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling, it condemned one-sided, discriminatory applications of the law against people of faith. This has been especially true in the wedding business, where florists, cake designers, photographers and others have been sued for declining to use their talents for same-sex weddings.

A unanimous Washington Supreme Court found that the florist, Barronelle Stutzman, violated the Washington Law Against Discrimination, a state civil rights law.

Supreme Court Ruling Means Some Online Purchases Will Cost More
For as long as internet shopping has been around, the issue of sales tax has been a hot-button issue. "And it's about time". The law calls for a one-tenth percent rate cut per $20 million in new state revenue from purchases through online retailers.

Plaintiff Robert Ingersoll "was my customer and friend for over nine years".

When Barronelle Stutzman was approached by a regular customer about having her flower shop, Arlene's Flowers, create arrangements for his wedding to another man, she refused.

Gay couple Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed made a decision to sue Barronelle Stutzman, owner of Arlene's Flowers in Richland, Washington, when she refused to provide flowers for their 2013 wedding.

Stutzman, who started managing her mother's shop in 1982, had provided flowers to the couple for nearly a decade. A Wisconsin Appeals Court remanded his case back to the circuit court earlier this month. "This isn't just about my freedom, it's about everyone's freedom".

"This conflicts with the Supreme Court's recognition in Masterpiece Cakeshop that it was "inappropriate" for the government to draw parallels between those religious beliefs and 'defenses of slavery'". Her home, business, savings and personal assets are all at risk in the case. In December of previous year, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit upheld Dassey's conviction by a vote of 4-3.

The case involved claims of racial gerrymandering - that election maps had the effect of harming the voting rights of black and Hispanic voters.
