Trump wants those who 'invade' sent right back

The Border Security And Immigration Reform Act Donald Trump Just Told Republicans To Back Off Immigration Reform — For Now

The charade began last month, when a group of vulnerable House Republicans made a decision to try to force a vote on a clean DREAM Act (i.e., legislation that gave a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers without funding Trump's wall or slashing legal immigration).

But even in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, the GOP couldn't unify behind a single proposal last week, as Trump has sent mixed signals about which of the two Republican bills he supports.

As it stands, the Republican's more moderate compromise measure would allow a path to citizenship for undocumented migrants, known as "Dreamers", who came to the U.S.as children, and would codify an end to the Trump administration's now halted practice of separating undocumented families who cross into the US illegally. Relenting to pressure from lawmakers of both parties, as well as his wife and daughter, Ivanka, Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to stop separating families.

"These are the American citizens permanently separated from their loved ones, the word "permanently" being the one you have to think about", Trump said Friday afternoon at an event with the family members.

But a bigger problem than the tweet is that the right flank of the GOP sees an opening to continue pushing for their preferred immigration bill, the Securing America's Future Act. The compromise includes a path to citizenship for Dreamers, those who came to the country illegally as children.

"Elect more Republicans in November and we will pass the finest, fairest and most comprehensive Immigration Bills anywhere in the world", Trump said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the GOP leadership is plowing ahead with a plan to vote on an immigration bill negotiated by conservative and moderate Republicans next week.

"The Republican-controlled Congress, which waited for Trump to undo by unilateral decree the border folly they could have prevented by actually legislating, is an advertisement for the unimportance of Republican control", Mr. Willwrote. "Without the president having legislators' backs, there's no way they're going to take the risks that would be inherent in a major reform bill".

Authorities can bypass due process protections with the expedited removals policy that allows quick deportations if an immigrant is apprehended within 100 miles (160 km) of the border and has been in the country less than 14 days.

Before tweeting out a series of Republican candidate endorsements on Friday morning, Trump lamented the Senate's 60-vote filibuster rule and shouted down Democrats for being "obstructionists".

Meanwhile, a majority of voters, 58 percent, opposed Trump's border wall, with only 39 percent in support.

Following the president's order to keep families together in detention during immigration proceedings, it remained unclear how and when those children would be reunited with their parents, and where families would be held while the parents face criminal charges. "Let's work together and get this done, all politicians, I don't care what side you're on", said Sabine Durden, the mother of another victim. He said VOICE, launched a year ago by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was set up to help victims receive information on their perpetrators.

"The United States government knows the location of all children in its custody and is working to reunite them with their families", the DHS said.
