Samsung naturally defended its position vigorously, and would soon file a number of countersuits against Apple for patent infringement.
Marking an end to one of the more high-profile tech disputes of our time, Apple and Samsung earlier today settled their ongoing patent dispute that raged on unabated for seven years.
A filing from the U.S. District Court for California's Northern District confirmed this news, and while the exact details of what this settlement entails are still unclear, we can officially say that the lawsuit has been laid to rest. The case began with the iPhone 3GS and the Galaxy S i9000: since then, both Apple and Samsung have completely reinvented their software and hardware styling.

Apple's argument was that Samsung's penalty should be calculated on the entire cost of the iPhone. But the last major event in the case came in May when the court ordered Samsung to pay Apple $539 million in damages.
"We believe deeply in the value of design", Apple said recently, "and our teams work tirelessly to create innovative products that delight our customers".
Samsung paid $548 million of the $1.05 billion owed to Apple in 2015, but appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the $399 million decision. A Samsung spokeswoman declined to comment.
The case dates back to 2011, when Apple, under the direction Steve Jobs, vowed to launch the legal equivalent of "thermonuclear war" against Samsung and other Android phone vendors Apple was convinced were ripping off designs it had patented for the iPhone.

Uruguay have finished as first round group winners for the fifth time, having done so previously in 1930, 1950, 1954 and 2010. But perhaps the biggest plus was the late goal from Cavani, who had been frustrated during the group stage.
