On July 27, 2018, a total lunar eclipse will be visible from South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. If this sounds familiar, it's because we recently were able to witness an even more rare lunar episode with this past January's Super Blue Blood Moon.
Moon gazers in North America-and most of the Arctic-won't be treated to the eclipse this time around.
The moon is called the blood moon because of the red colour of the moon seen by people.
Astronomers expect the total eclipse to last for a full 1 hour and 43 minutes, with the partial eclipse - which occurs before and after the total eclipse phase - lasting for 3 hours and 55 minutes. The greatest eclipse will occur at 8.22 p.m. UTC (4.22 p.m. ET), EarthSky reported.
It will coincide with a total eclipse of the Moon.

New Zealand does see the earlier stages of the eclipse, with the Moon entering the penumbra - or light shadow - at 5.14am and the umbra - dark shadow - at 6.24am.
The entire event, from start to finish, will last around four hours. "The moon is simply passing into the Earth's shadow".
Credit: Fred Espenak/NASA GSFC Why is it the longest of the century? This will be the fourth of five eclipses this year and the second of the lunar variety. "This time, the moon is passing closer to the center of that cone, and it's therefore a little bit longer than the eclipse we had back in January".
The low arc of the June full moon across the sky means moonlight must travel through more of the Earth's atmosphere, which gives it an orange or yellow tint.
This is because the full moon happens to coincide next month with the point at which the moon's orbit is furthest away from the earth, so it will take longer to pass through the earth's shadow.
