The recapture of Naseeb in Daraa marks the return of Assad's forces to the province where the uprising against him began seven years ago, following successive military victories across most of the country with the help of powerful allies Russian Federation and Iran.

Jordanian mediation has brought Syrian rebel negotiators back to the table with Russian officers to discuss a final deal to end fighting and restore Syrian state control of Daraa Governorate, a Syrian opposition spokesman said.

Daraa is considered the cradle of the 2011 uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that triggered Syria's devastating civil war.

The armed faction in question was in part persuaded to make the reconciliation deal by figures close to Moscow who have connections to the regime.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday that calm reigned over the region after the finalization of the ceasefire deal.

But Russia blocked the council from adopting a statement on the issue.

Russian Federation wants to replace the Geneva Process with the Astana Process since the latter does not require regime change except by gradual reform or changes to the constitution in wartime. The terrorist group has attacked opposition factions as if doing a favour to the regime.

Iran's Zarif hails 'will to resist' U.S. pressure on nuclear deal
The news follows a threat by Iran to cut off oil reserves to the rest of the world in the wake of conflict with the US. President Donald Trump announced he was abandoning the nuclear deal and moving to reimpose sanctions on Iran.

"We have a Separation of Forces Agreement with Syria from 1974", said the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.

The forces in Deraa province recovered the crossing on Friday in an offensive that has swept into insurgent territory in southwest Syria with the help of heavy Russian air power.

The Syrian government campaign has created a new problem for Jordan in the shape of tens of thousands of civilians who have fled the offensive towards the border.

Israel has repeatedly said that it will not allow Iran to establish a foothold in Syria and has conducted numerous air raids over the past year targeting Iranian assets in Syria.

Syria and Israel have never signed a formal peace treaty.

Both countries have said they will not open their borders to refugees - Jordan took in more than half a million earlier in the war - but have distributed some supplies inside Syria.

The US position is influenced by Israel's preferences. It said Syrian army units have also established control over the town of Nuaima in the past 24 hours. The rest have sought shelter at the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Rebels in Syria's battered south are returning to talks with government ally Russian Federation, an opposition spokesman said on Thursday, after almost a full day of unprecedented bombing on their positions.
