Samsung, a world leader in smartphone market, has been associated with the lives of millions of Indians, the Prime Minister said, adding that there is hardly any middle-class family in India who doesn't own a Samsung product.

The expansion of Samsung's Noida facility - one of two manufacturing plants in the country - will help Samsung increase its phone production by nearly double.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will visit Noida in Uttar Pradesh, to inaugurate a new unit of Samsung plant. It is on the set of a former plant that used to make refrigerators and TVs, with smartphones joining the production line in 2007.

Although Samsung held the top spot on the list of mobile phone manufacturers in India for a long time, it was recently knocked down to the second position by Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi. The 35-acre first-of-its-kind facility is expected to double Samsung's manufacturing capacity in the country.

The PM added the number of manufacturing factories in mobiles had gone up to 120 from just two since 2014.

"Cheaper mobile phones, high-speed internet, and cheap data are ensuring fast and transparent service delivery", he said.

"We are aligned with government policies and will continue to seek their support to achieve our dream of making India a global export hub for mobile phones", H C Hong, Chief Executive Officer, Samsung India, said.

Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in inaugurated the giant assembling plant - an expansion of an existing Samsung facility - in the city of Noida on the outskirts of New Delhi.

Not China or South Korea - and certainly not the U.S. - the tag of housing the world's largest mobile factory has straight away put Noida on top of the world manufacturing map when it comes to consumer electronics. India has around 40 crore smartphone users and almost 32 crore people use broadband.

In his address at the Samsung event, Modi said that development would lend pace to the Make in India programme.

The South Korean electronics giant had past year announced a fresh investment of Rs 4,915 crore to expand the existing plant by another 35 acres.

In a bid to woo farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing Kisan Sammelans across in Uttar Pradesh in the next three weeks.

President Moon Jae-in said the new facility will create a new era for India-Korea ties.

70,000 employees are now working for Samsung, and they are looking forward to expand their offline presence to 1.5 lakh retail outlets.
