A dead fetus reportedly was found Tuesday morning onboard an out-of-service American Airlines plane in New York City.

The fetus was found hours after Flight 1942 arrived Monday in New York City night from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Officials confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that a cleaning crew found a dead baby aboard an airplane at the LaGuardia Airport in NYC. After arriving in NY late Monday, the plane had been parked in a hangar overnight, and the fetus went undiscovered.

Sources say the fetus was five to six months along.

It's still unclear who gave birth to the fetus, and why she left it inside the plane restroom.
