"Folks, there was some bad news recently for extreme right-wing conspiracy theorist and bath salts spokesmodel, Alex Jones", Stephen Colbert told The Late Show audience on Tuesday night.

The moves follow similar action by Apple Inc. and Spotify Technology SA. He's now being sued by the victims' family members over harassment they received from "Infowars" fans and has been booted from a number of major platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Spotify and Apple. "That's not us", Dorsey wrote on Twitter. Jones, the founder of InfoWars, is known for spreading far-right conspiracy theories, including saying that the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting was a hoax.

"Facebook caved here because Apple made a decision to enforce their own Terms", activist group Sleeping Giants tweeted on Monday.

"If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principles we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that's constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction", Dorsey tweeted. "This should have been done long ago, not because another company provided them cover".

Podcasts like "The Alex Jones Show" and "War Room" have been pulled from all of Apple's directories, but the company has left up the less popular InfoWars podcast "Real News With David Knight".

That may actually win it some support from liberals who detest Alex Jones but worry about the power of Google and Facebook to decide what is allowed on the internet.

A Twitter spokesman confirmed that InfoWars and associated accounts now comply with Twitter's rules. The boost was likely caused by increased downloads given the news Monday that InfoWars was banned from several tech platforms. It was the first major company to sanction the broadcaster in its entirety as pressure has mounted on content sharing platforms in recent months to clampdown on Jones and Infowars. Family members of some of the victims are suing Jones for defamation.

Jones, who has 858,000 followers on Twitter, has built up his profile while promulgating conspiracy theories.
