Justice Minister of Zimbabwe, Ziyambi Ziyambi said on Friday that due to the court challenge "The inauguration is no longer going ahead as planned". Mugabe resigned in November after a military takeover, and many Zimbabweans were euphoric at his departure after decades of economic and political paralysis.

"On the basis of the evidence we have placed before the court, we seek in the main relief to the effect that the court should declare the proper victor and the proper victor is my client", Mpofu told reporters outside. "And that proper victor is my client, [with] the alternative that be there another election which complies with the dictates of the constitution of Zimbabwe". He also faces a charge of contravening Zimbabwe's electoral act by announcing allegedly illegal or fabricated election results.

The court now has 14 days to rule, and the inauguration is on hold until then.

This follows allegations that Zanu-PF lost presidential votes in the province but they were declared winners by ZEC.

The EU, US, Canadian and Australian missions to Zimbabweurged authorities to guarantee Biti's safety and human rights, and said they were "deeply disturbed by continuing reports that opposition supporters are being targeted by members of the Zimbabwean security forces". "But if they want to meet us in court we have sufficient legal minds to meet them squarely in court".

Chamisa made a complaint on Friday against the Presidential election result, which he lost with 44.3 percent of the vote, preventing Mnangagwa's swearing-in ceremony scheduled for today.

While addressing a Zanu-PF Umguza and Bubi constituencies' inter-district meeting in Bulawayo, Mpofu said democracy prevailed in the just ended elections.

The election passed off relatively smoothly but its aftermath revealed the deep rifts in Zimbabwean society.

Two days after the election, however, soldiers opened fire during opposition protests in the capital, Harare, with six people killed.
