David Silva announces retirement from International football

David Silva from Spain on Monday confirmed his retirement from worldwide football after playing for his country on 125 occasions.

Silva was also part of the team that made history by winning back-to-back Euro Championships, interceded for the country's first, and so far only, World Cup victory.

"Without a doubt, it is one of the most hard decisions of my career which I'm now announcing, full of gratitude and humility".

Silva represented his country on 125 occasions, scoring 35 times in an worldwide career that spanned 12 years.

The 32-year-old fleece footed midfielder, has 125 caps for his country, and won the most coveted trophy in global football, the World Cup in 2010.

"It's not easy to write this after all that I have experienced".

Silva said: "I lived and dreamed with a team that will forever be remembered". There have been days and weeks of reflection and analysis to make the decision to finish my time in the Spain national team.

"The national team has given me everything and allowed me to grow as a footballer and person since (playing in) the youth categories".

I am proud to complete 12 years with the national team, with which I won the world championship and twice became the champion of Europe.

"I can not leave without thanking my teammates, all the coaches who had faith in me and with the RFEF employees, who give it all to make our life easier".

'Thank you, good luck and farewell!'

Silva's retirement comes shortly after that of Gerard Piqué, who also stepped down after the World Cup, as Spain face a changing of the guard under new coach Luis Enrique.
