Trump rejects Hurricane Maria death toll in Puerto Rico

He said: "When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths".

Last May, Harvard University public health researchers estimated the death toll was even higher.

At a briefing with FEMA Administrator Brock Long on Tuesday to discuss preparations for Hurricane Florence, Trump was asked about lessons learned from Maria that could be applied to storm preparation this year.

None of that is true, Meyers said, including the part about Puerto Rico being inaccessible ("There's a Jet Blue flight there every half hour", he noted), but it's not surprising that Trump is having a hard time calming people down because he is so freaked out over Bob Woodward's new book, Fear.

'Mr Trump you can try and bully us with your tweets BUT WE KNOW OUR LIVES MATTER.

The co-host - whose family was directly impacted by the Puerto Rico storm - gave Trump a verbal pummeling while talking about reports that the administration took $10 million away from FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) - and gave it to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), noted Mediaite. Numerous deaths were attributed to power outages and a lack of access to health care and clean water, according to a study from the George Washington University.

The photos began circulating on social media Tuesday, the same day President Trump again praised the government's response to Maria during a meeting with top DHS and FEMA officials. Although they initially said that just 64 people died from the hurricane, a more thorough examination led them to estimate that almost 3,000 people died.

Where does the official death toll come from?

A photographer working for a Puerto Rican police agency reportedly caught a glimpse of a stockpile of bottled water on a runaway in the city of Ceiba.

Puerto Rico's governor last month raised the US territory's official death toll from Hurricane Maria from 64 to 2,975 after an independent study found that the number of people who succumbed in the sweltering aftermath had been severely undercounted. 'I think Puerto Rico was an incredible, unsung success, ' he claimed.

Long, the FEMA chief, held a conference call for reporters on Thursday morning to describe the Trump administration's efforts to prepare for Hurricane Florence.
