Russia's defense minister says Moscow will send more modern S-300 missile defense systems to Syria following last week's downing of a Russian plane.
Konashenkov said an Israeli officer told them of an Israeli operation in northern Syria while the jets were actually in Latakia, in the country's west.
According to the halturnerradioshow.com, nearly seven Ilyushin Il-76 military transporters of Russian Air Force have arrived at Khmeimim military airbase on 22 September. The crash was one of the deadliest incidents for regular Russian service members in the Syrian war.
The Kremlin on Monday said the downing of a Russian plane in Syria last week following Israeli strikes will harm relations between the two countries and accused Israeli pilots of acting deliberately.
According to the report, Israel has not changed its policy in Syria despite the Russian message.
Peskov said the new measures were decided on to boost the security of its troops in Syria. Israel effectively used the plane as a cover during the attack, he added.
However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Sunday that the Russian decision "is not directed against third nations", and is primarily aimed at protecting Russian aircraft from further friendly fire. "Everything had worked right up until the tragedy that occurred recently".
The paper quoted security officials as saying that Moscow recently conveyed a message to Tel Aviv that attacking Syrian targets is against its goal to strengthen Syrian President Bashar Assad's legitimate government and harms his attempts to end the fighting in the country.
Israel denied this version of events and its air force commander flew to Moscow following the incident, which Putin called the result of a "chain of tragic accidental circumstances".
Moscowfirst announced that it was considering reversing its longtime policy against supplying the S-300 system to the regime following a series of airstrikes against Syrian targets by the United States, United Kingdom and France in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack by Assad.
"We are convinced that these measures will calm down some hotheads and keep them from careless actions which pose a threat to our troops", Mr Shoigu said.
Israel has fiercely lobbied against Russian Federation providing Syria with S-300 air defense systems.
Shoigu said the new system will "significantly increase" the Syrian army's combat capabilities.
For several years, Israel and Russian Federation have maintained a special hotline to prevent their air forces from clashing in the skies over Syria.
The deterioration in relations between Russian Federation and Israel, along with a transfer of the S-300 system, complicates Israel's efforts to contain Iranian influence.
