Ryder Cup organizers say they will support "for as long as necessary" the spectator who was hit by a tee shot and has reportedly lost sight in her right eye.

Koepka and Johnson are regarded as good friends and live close to each other in Florida, but were reported to have clashed after being invited into the European team room following the biennial contest at Le Golf National.

Remande added that she hoped her accident would improve safety precautions at golf tournaments.

Brooks Koepka signs a glove and gives it to the woman who was hit by the ball during the Ryder Cup.

Koepka said in a statement on Twitter on Tuesday that he was "deeply hurt and saddened" by the incident and also addressed what happened in a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The 28-year-old American, the US Open and PGA Championship victor, said he was heartbroken to hear a woman struck by his one of his tee shots at the Ryder Cup last week might lose vision in her right eye.

"Doctors told me I had lost the use of that eye", she told AFP.

Despite claims from fellow American Patrick Reed that there was other discord among the United States of America team, Koepka said: "I think the camaraderie was flawless, the trouble is you guys [the media] try to find a reason we lost".

"No one feels worse about this than I do. The problem is you guys try to find a reason why we lost and the simple reason is we didn't play good". So I'm looking forward to speaking with her, today, or in the next few days, hours, whatever it might be and just having a conversation with her, talking to her. I'm not the biggest person on social media so when I got here [Monday] and had about seven missed calls and 25 text messages I was like: 'What's going on?' We talked on the phone on Monday, so tell me how we fought? "It's upsetting, it really is, I hit a golf ball and someone lost their sight in their eye".

"It's actually quite amusing to us", he said.

The angry exchange, reported by USA Today, came amid claims the alleged spat between Dustin Johnson and Koepka stemmed back to the U.S. team's flight to Paris last week.

"The Majors, there's obviously a lot of weight with those but I don't see it as being a lock with Dustin, Justin (Thomas) and Bubba (Watson) all winning three times", he said.

"It would be rough and rowdy". We supposed (ly) fought on the plane on the way over too when we were sleeping. I can't remember raising my voice to him.

Like Tiger Woods, whose desire to take advantage of a second chance has fuelled his incredible comeback this year, Koepka's hunger knows no bounds after his career-threatening wrist injury left him depressed and on the sofa for four months earlier this season.

"That's not who we are".
