Police said they are still investigating the cause of the crash and did not comment on the speed of the limousine.

Witnesses said they saw pedestrians who had been hit trying to enter the Apple Barrel during the crash, according to WNYT.

"The vehicle appeared in awful condition", Abeling said, recalling a text message her daughter received from Erin McGowan.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released as police are locating next of kin. Vertucci and her newlywed husband, Shane McGowan, were on their way to the birthday party of a friend when the crash unfolded.

She said her own daughter had been invited along but couldn't go. "They'd do anything for you and they were very close to each other and they loved their family". "Our lives have been changed forever".

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed Sunday it was dispatching "go-team" to investigate the crash, and verified that one of the vehicles involved was a limousine.

The limo barreled down a hill between state routes 30 and 30A in Schoharie shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday.

It is understood that 18 of those killed were in the limo and the two others were pedestrians. Officials, including Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., pushed for better federal safety regulations for limousines after the crash, citing "significant gaps" in safety standards for the vehicles - which are often modified using aftermarket parts and techniques. Authorities say all the occupants died.

Saudi Journalist Killed By 'Murder' Team At Consulate In Turkey
In an interview with Bloomberg, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was quoted as saying, "I love working with him, [Trump]". But if proven, the murder of Jamal Khashoggi would be the most serious diplomatic crisis between the two in living memory.

The person was not authorized to discuss the preliminary information publicly and spoke Sunday on the condition of anonymity.

The crash "sounded like an explosion", said Linda Riley, of nearby Schenectady, who was on a shopping trip with her sisters.

The limo smashed into a parked 2015 Toyota Highlander that stuck and killed two bystanders, while the limo continued hurtling on across a lawn and into a small stand of trees on the far side of the ditch.

Schoharie is about 170 miles (270 kilometers) north of New York City.

Schoharie Town Supervisor Alan Tavenner drove by the scene on his way to church Sunday morning. "There's just a lot of confusion, so many people died", he said.

The limousine, carrying 18 people, sped through an intersection and drove into a auto park outside an Apple Barrel Country Store, striking a vehicle and two pedestrians.

Associated Press writer David Klepper in Providence, Rhode Island, contributed.

Twenty people died on Saturday after a limousine crashed in upstate NY, in what safety officials are calling the nation's worst road accident in almost a decade.
