Franklin Park off East Broad Street was transformed into a horticultural exposition that rivaled both Disney's EPCOT and World's Fair.

"On Columbus Day, we commemorate the achievements of this skilled Italian explorer and recognize his courage, willpower, and ambition - all values we cherish as Americans", Trump wrote.

The Ohio city's decision is not related to a movement to end Columbus Day and replace it with Indigenous Peoples Day, in deference to the Native American population that was colonized and in some cases enslaved or decimated by colonizing forces associated with Columbus.

With Monday a federal holiday, government offices will be closed, therefore, don't expect any mail delivery from United States Postal Service, but FedEx and UPS will be making deliveries. But more and more places are moving to replace Columbus Day.

Instead, city officials have chosen instead to celebrate another federal holiday, Veteran's Day on November 12, a day during which the city normally remains open because it would require a paid holiday for all city employees. The other two are Presidents' Day and Veterans Day. Less than half of the states give their workers Columbus Day off as a paid holiday. "Columbus Day is a relic of an outdated and oversimplified version of history", Somerville mayor Joe Curtatone wrote on Facebook. Some states are opting to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day instead, as an alternative holiday.

But this federal holiday ― and the monuments that celebrate Columbus as an uncomplicated hero ― must go.

In Columbus, the explorer had been a point of pride in the 19th century and into the 20th, when three statues were erected in his honor over the decades. "The fact that the city of Columbus is taking action is a victory for everyone".

The Test series will be followed by a three-match T20I series (Abu Dhabi, October 24, and Dubai , October 26 and October 28). Australia negotiated the 13 overs and were 30/0 at stumps with Usman Khawaja not out on 17 and Aaron Finch batting on 13.

But it became the subject of protests previous year over Columbus's enslavement of native people, with the protest's organizer supporting renaming the city itself.

In September he introduced a resolution in the House calling Columbus a "true hero", echoing an op-ed he co-wrote for the New York Daily News a year ago with another Italian-American, Republican Rep.

So what did Columbus really do?

In addition, Columbus Metropolitan Library branches will be open Monday and Central Ohio Transit Authority offices will be open and buses will run on a regular schedule.

- It is Columbus Day across much of the country, but some Minnesota cities are celebrating a different holiday. It's important to remember that if you deposit a check into an ATM on Columbus Day, it may take until the next business day to process.

Ohio's capital city announced the move late last week, issuing a short news release to note that its offices are open on Monday, and that trash collection and parking laws will be handled as usual.
