During the last three days of his Asia trip, Pompeo met with top leaders from all three nations in Japan, South and North Korea.

Wang, the foreign minister, made clear that China was most concerned about recent USA moves to improve ties with the democratically run island of Taiwan, which Beijing considers a province.

He also accused the USA of making "a series of moves" on Taiwan and "other issues" that he said hurt Chinese sovereignty.

Mr Wang said United States actions on trade and its support for Taiwan, which China considers part of its own territory, had cast a shadow on the relationship between the two countries.

Last month, the North's foreign minister told the United Nations there was "no way" his country would disarm first as long as tough USA sanctions remain against his country.

"We believe this has been a direct attack on our mutual trust, and has cast a shadow on China-U.S. relations", he added.

"There's a lot of logistics that will be required to execute that", Pompeo told a news briefing in Seoul before leaving for Beijing, where the frosty tone of talks will raise worries about China's willingness help maintain a tough USA -led sanctions regime on North Korea.

"Did Mike Pompeo go all the way to Pyongyang for party planning purposes?"

"When you speak the same language it is because you have the same mother, and this gives us hope", the pope said. "I thought we had a good, productive conversation, and as President Trump has said, there are many steps along the way, and we took one of them today, another step forward".

He said that dialogue would develop favourably "based on the deep confidence between the two leaders of the two countries".

On the court, Chinese female basketball players who are visiting Pyongyang this week mixed together with North Korean female players to form two teams, called "Friendship" and "Unity". "I am stating a fact".

North Korea and the Vatican now have no formal diplomatic relations.

"Recently the United States escalated trade friction with China, took actions that jeopardized China's rights and interests on the Taiwan issue and unwarrantedly condemned China on its domestic and foreign policies", Wang said.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Kim in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital, on Sunday for talks on setting up a second summit with Trump. However, there were no plans for him to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was seen as a sign of worsening relations between the two powers.

In a later meeting Monday, Pompeo met Yang Jiechi, a senior cabinet official and former foreign minister.

Yang said China and the USA must expand political cooperation to achieve mutual aims. "We hope the U.S. and China will be on the same page".

In a statement released after Pompeo's meetings, the State Department said both sides agreed on the importance of a "constructive, results-oriented bilateral relationship".

South Korean diplomats at the Vatican said it is hard to predict whether Francis will accept the chance to go to Pyongyang, Yonhap reported Tuesday.
