Facebook now wants to put a camera and mic at your home

Facebook Introduces AR Enhanced Video Calling Devices Facebook launches Portal and Portal+ video call devices

To improve the user's experience, the social media giant Facebook announced it's first ever tech gadget, and it is a bit creepy as you'll expect.

Users can choose either a 10-inch 1280 x 800 display or 15-inch 1920 x 1080 display, both with as little of the intelligent hardware visible as possible, to give the feeling of being in the same room as loved ones.

In addition, the microphones and the camera can be easily disabled, and if the user does not trust the mute button, then you can lock the lens with a special rubber cap. Facebook doesn't listen to, view, or keep the contents of your Portal video calls. Whether you're moving around the kitchen or chasing the kids through the living room, Portal's Smart Camera adjusts to follow the action. Apple also offers FaceTime video chat on iPads that use WiFi or cellular connections.

The two products, Portal and Portal+, allows users to make and receive video calls using the Facebook Messenger service or Facebook. Portal's launch comes just a couple of weeks after a second security incident at the company, this time involving the theft of access tokens.

Facebook unveiled its long-anticipated foray into hardware Monday with the announcement of its twin video chat devices, Portal and Portal+, available in November.

Facebook says Portal does not collect information about people's home, listening only for voice commands. From there, you can contact anybody who has Facebook's Messenger app - so pretty much everyone.

Antonio Brown had 3 straight police visits for 3 different reasons
On April 24, Brown called police to the apartment for a reported theft. Brown says his 9mm firearm was also gone. There's been no comment from Brown.

Both of the Portals are created to be used from a distance of between 5ft to 10ft (1.5m to 3m) - further than video calls are typically made from using smartphones and other computers. The artificial intelligence-powered, hands-free, voice-controlled device works with Alexa, the virtual assistant developed by Amazon. Portal's camera doesn't use facial recognition and doesn't identify who you are. The company also revealed that you can make group calls with up to seven people with Portal. Teleports were created to give a real time visit experience to physically challenged people who can not visit places they liked.

The Portal will even have its very own command call, triggered by saying "Hey Portal." similar to that of Amazon and Google.

The Portal's launch was expected at F8 this year but got delayed due to the scandals engulfing Facebook. This enables users to operate connected smart home devices and stream music from Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Pandora. A handful of animated e-books will also be included for interactive story time.

The "Portal" will be available in two sizes - a $199 model with a 25.4-cm horizontal screen and a $349 "Plus" version model with a 39.6-cm screen.

The Facebook Portal and Portal+ are now available to pre-order in the USA from Facebook at portal.facebook.com, as well as Amazon and Best Buy.
