Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the USA is revoking the visas of Saudis found to be involved in the killing of Khashoggi.

The United States has also vowed to revoke visas of some of those believed to be responsible.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has condemned the murder of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, saying perpetrating such a "heinous" crime would have been impossible without the support of the United States, a close Riyadh ally.

This year's summit, however, has been overshadowed by the October 2 killing of Khashoggi. "It was carried out poorly, and the cover-up was one of the worst cover-ups in the history of cover-ups", Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Mr Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was a U.S. resident and Washington Post columnist.

"We know that many are trying to use this painful thing to drive a wedge between Saudi Arabia and Turkey".

"They (the Saudis) had a very bad original concept". On Monday, Mr. Trump said he isn't satisfied with what he's heard from the Saudis.

Berlin is in the process of reviewing its arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which include over a dozen fast patrol boats built by Luerssen Defense, as well as COBRA anti-artillery radar systems built by a consortium including Airbus Defense & Space, Thales, and Lockheed Martin.

The new version of events, described to AP by two Saudi officials, comes three weeks after the kingdom said Khashoggi left the consulate on his own and insisted Turkish claims he was killed by an assassination squad were unfounded.

"It is a disgrace that reaches all the way to Crown Prince (Mohammed bin) Salman".

But as pressure grew, Saudi state media changed the story and said Khashoggi died when an argument descended into a fistfight, an account that was swiftly denounced overseas even if Trump initially said he found it credible.

In Riyadh, on Tuesday, King Salman and Prince Mohammed received Khashoggi's son, Salah, and his brother, Sahel, at the Yamama Palace, where the royals expressed their condolences.

Erdogan stopped short of mentioning the crown prince who some USA lawmakers suspect ordered the killing of the Washington Post columnist. "Pinning such a case on some security and intelligence members will not satisfy us or the global community", he said, per Reuters.

The Turkish leader said "to blame such an incident on a handful of security and intelligence members would not satisfy us or the global community". Mr Erdogan made no reference to any audio recording.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who many believe was forced by Prince Mohammed to resign from his position during a visit to the kingdom previous year, will also speak Wednesday at the conference.

Saudi Arabia first denied any involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance after entering the consulate but a Saudi official eventually attributed the death to a chokehold. It was not clear what was in the suitcases.

Dozens of Western politicians, top world bankers and company executives boycotted this year's Future Investment Initiative conference that opened in Riyadh on Tuesday, but the world's largest oil exporter showed it could still do business by signing deals worth US$50 billion (S$68.96 billion) on the first day.

"In terms of what we ultimately do, I'm going to leave it very much - in conjunction with me - I'm going to leave it up to Congress", Trump said. It first denied his death and later said Khashoggi - a U.S. resident and columnist for the Washington Post - died inside the consulate after a fight.

In his interview with the Journal, Trump said he had asked the prince multiple times about the matter.
