British royal Meghan Markle recounted her own struggles to afford university as she passionately promoted female education to Fijian students in her first speech of the Oceania royal tour Wednesday.

"It was through scholarships, financial aid programmes and work study or my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition, that I was able to attend university and without question it was worth every effort".

Irene Lily, who runs a stall to help disabled women told us that she wanted to tell the Duchess about her project. She also used the opportunity to announce two new grants for the school, both aimed at supporting female employees and staff.

"After a busy program, the Duke and Duchess have made a decision to cut back the Duchess's schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week-and-a-half" of their tour, the palace told The Sydney Morning Herald.

On Sunday, they fly to New Zealand for the final four days of their tour.
