Google News App Reportedly Using Excessive Background Data Without User's Knowledge

SHAREit partners with Google Play to help keep users safe when peer-to-peer sharing Google moves to take control of apps shared outside the Play Store

Not so long ago, we witnessed the release of Google News as a replacement of Google Play Stand and Google News & Weather app.

Obviously, others should receive the update in the coming months, but there will not be too many users to enjoy Google's health-related app yet (and to provide useful feedback to the makers of this piece of code, obviously).

Over 125 Android apps and websites have been drawn into a massive fraud scheme that's seen hundreds of millions of dollars in ad revenue stolen, according to an in-depth investigative report published by Buzzfeed News.

The tech giant announced last week that it would comply with the above ruling by unbundling the Google Android app package. Which is kind of ironic given the current issue with Google News.

Almost 43% of apps shared data with Facebook, while significant percentages shared data with Twitter, Verizon, Microsoft and Amazon firms. You can also get rid of system, spam, and duplicate files and images. Given Google is aware of the issue, we expect it to roll out a fix soon. The researchers found that many apps were targeted at children and gathering data from them.

'We won't run away from the Bull' - Rodgers
You play so many games and at certain times in the season that's going to happen so we'll just have to deal with it. And Brendan Rodgers has not been helped by the current injury crisis at Celtic Park.

They at that point followed the conduct of the applications' human clients and impersonated it utilizing a "vast network of bots", enabling them to produce counterfeit traffic and con advertisers out of millions for in-application promotions (counting those kept running by Google itself).

Impact: Many reports are citing pretty big data usage amounts for Google News, with one hitting over 28GB in just a short period of time. What happened? 37Gb mobile data used in just a one or two days?

For European users, the findings raise the issue of how these applications comply with GDPR and how the data is shared beyond the EU, which forbids the transfer of citizen data to counties deemed not to have privacy safeguards equivalent to those in Europe. However, going by the user complaints, the issue remains to be dealt with.

Dom Elliott, another Google Play product manager, outlined the history of app publishing, the advent of Android App Bundle, its effect on developers and what the new publishing format means for the future of Android in an extensive post on Medium.
