A suspicious device was also found at the Time Warner Center, where CNN is based, in New York, CNN reported on Wednesday.

Federal authorities revealed they are investigating suspicious packages sent to former US President Barack Obama and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton this week.

While the first explosive device was found Monday - at the NY home of George Soros, a billionaire activist known to fund pro-democracy and liberal political groups - it was not until early Wednesday that it became apparent investigators were hunting a serial bomber.

Similar packages addressed to Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama on their way to Chappaqua, New York, where Clinton lives with former President Bill Clinton and to Washington, where Obama lives with his wife, Michelle. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!'

Campaign chairman Brad Parscale later apologized, saying it was a pre-programmed message that was not caught before news of the pipe bomb came out.

An additional clue: Misspellings from his online posts matched mistakes found on the packages, according to an 11-page criminal complaint that included the formal charges of threatening former presidents and transporting explosives across state lines.

The White House was forced to defend the president over accusations that he was not taking the attempted bombings seriously enough.

On Tuesday, one of the law enforcement officials said the motive of the would-be Soros bomber or bombers remained unclear, adding that there had not yet been any claim of responsibility.

Biden once said he would have fought Trump if they were in high school, while De Niro received a loud ovation when he hurled an obscenity at Trump at the Tony Awards in June. It was compact, perhaps about the length of a wooden spoon, and contained wires and a black pipe, officials said.

The explosive devices were packed in envelopes with bubble-wrap interiors bearing six American flag stamps and the return address of Florida Rep.

She is the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee who was accused by Clinton rivals of secretly helping the party's eventual presidential nominee.

A police bomb squad and canine units joined federal investigators on Thursday examining a U.S. mail distribution center at Opa-Locka, northwest of Miami, Miami-Dade County police said.

A law enforcement source said the device found in the Time Warner Center's mailroom is similar to the ones addressed to Obama, Clinton and billionaire investor and major Democratic donor George Soros, which was discovered earlier this week.

The packages were "clearly an effort to terrorize people politically, to choose people for political purposes and attack them due to their beliefs", New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The devices have all been sent to an Federal Bureau of Investigation lab in Virginia to be studied.

The device addressed to Hillary Clinton was discovered at her home in the NY suburb of Chappaqua, Westchester County, late on Tuesday by a Secret Service employee who screens mail for her.

The list of prominent people, eight and counting, who were sent suspicious packages reads like a Trump enemies list, politicians and Trump critics who are often targeted in his rally speeches and tweets. That package had an incorrect address, so it was redirected to Wasserman Schultz's office in Sunrise, Fla., and recovered there. A Wasserman Schultz district office in South Florida was listed as the return address on the packages, in what current and former investigators said was a feint suggesting particular antipathy on the part of the bomber toward her.

And on the other side of the political spectrum, Republican congressman and House majority whip Steve Scalise was one of several people wounded in June 2017 by a rifle-toting left-wing activist who died in the ensuing shootout with police.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders sought to draw a distinction between words and deeds.

CNN news anchors Jim Sciutto and Poppy Harlow were reporting on the suspicious packages sent to Clinton and Obama when their fire alarm went off. Footage showed officials in Plantation towing away a van with stickers that featured images of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Initial reports by CNN that the White House received a similar "suspicious package" was incorrect, according to the Secret Service.
