Google sacks 48 people over sexual misconduct claims

Don't be evil my ass Google's multi-million cover-up of Android founder's sexual misconduct revealed

Reportedly, Google paid Andy Rubin an exit package of 90 million Dollars in 2014 and hushed up about the misconduct claims against him.

That all said, the email makes no mention of Singhal and Rubin, both of whom left Google over two years ago.

Pichai said the story was "difficult to read" and that Google is now "dead serious" about making the company a safe and inclusive workplace, highlighting it reviews all complaints about sexual harassment.

Google says it has sacked 48 people, including 13 senior managers, over sexual harassment claims since 2016. None of those included in that number received an exit package from Google, he said.

At the end of Google's code of conduct there is a sentence that reads, "And remember... don't be evil, and if you see something that you think isn't right - speak up", and this week that phrase has come under scrutiny.

According to some of those interviewed by the paper, Google was flexible in how it enforced its sexual harassment policy.

He allegedly coerced an employee into performing a sex act on him in a hotel room in 2013, the New York Times reported. "He added that the company 'support and respect those who have spoken out".

Although Pichai didn't directly address the allegations against Rubin and other executives, he conceded the Times story "was hard to read" and did not dispute it.

Andy Rubin received payments of $2m (£1.6m) per month for four years after leaving the search giant in 2014, The New York Times reports. Rubin served as the senior vice president of mobile and digital content at Google, and oversaw Android's development for smartphones.

A few weeks into the investigation, Rubin was awarded an additional stock grant of $US150 million, which the report described as high by Google's standards. The suit also consisted of an email which Rubin sent to a woman, in which he wrote, "You will be happy being taken care of". Anonymous sources told the Times that Google investigated the claim and found it to be credible. You can find many ways to do this at go/saysomething.

Rubin's spokesperson Sam Singer denied that Mr. Rubin was ever informed of any misconduct allegations leveled at him during his time with Google. Those rules require all of Google's vice presidents and senior vice presidents to disclose any relationship with an employee, even if they don't work in the same department or have any other potential conflict.

"There are serious consequences for anyone who behaves inappropriately", the email concluded.
