Dead After Amazon Center Partially Collapses in Baltimore, Maryland

Amazon's senior vice-president of operations, Dave Clark, said in a tweet on Saturday there were two fatalities at the site, on the south-east side of the city.

Clark said the body of a second person was pulled from the rubble around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Baltimore Sun reports the victims were a 54-year-old employee of a real estate consulting firm and the 37-year-old owner of a trucking company that contracted with Amazon.

Two men died at an Amazon fulfillment center in Baltimore after a tornado struck the region on Friday, causing a partial collapse of a 50-foot wall at the facility.

Amazon released a statement on Saturday and said that the building would remain closed until further notice. No other injuries were reported by Amazon. We are working with emergency responders to assess the damage and we are thankful for their quick response this evening.

The tornado briefly lifted before touching down again at an apartment complex in Dundalk. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families impacted by last night's tragic event, ' the spokesperson added.

Earlier, the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a warning about the thunderstorms in the area with strong winds and heavy rain.
