Pompeo says 'handful more weeks' before US responds to Khashoggi killing

Mohammed bin Salman 'told White House' Khashoggi was a dangerous Islamist Turkish prosecutor states Saudis killed journalist Khashoggi

In a Friday op-ed for The Washington Post, the Turkish president said there are still many "questions" for Saudi Arabia to answer regarding the killing of Khashoggi in the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, a Turkish official said he believes Khashoggi's body was dissolved in acid or other chemicals after it was mutilated.

Yasin Aktay, a ruling party adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told The Associated Press on Friday that "there can be no other formula" to explain why Khashoggi's remains have not been found a month after he was killed.

He said Khashoggi's close friends and family had urged activists to protest "in key states that are close to the Saudi regime and giving them diplomatic cover".

On October 24, the office of Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor also accepted that Khashoggi's killing was premeditated.

The Saudi Government initially insisted Khashoggi had left the consulate, later saying he died in an unplanned "rogue operation".

The Nov. 2 date was chosen to remember two French journalists who were killed in Mali on this day in 2013 - two of the more than 1,000 journalists whom the United Nations says have died since 2006.

Erdogan's comments came shortly after one of his top lieutenants charged that Khashoggi's dismembered body was "dissolved" in the consulate as part of an effort to leave no trace of the killing.

Saudi authorities have denied Turkish police permission to search a well in the consulate's garden but did allow them to take water samples for analysis, according to local media reports.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told the USA he considered murdered writer Jamal Khashoggi to be a risky Islamist, media reports say.

On Wednesday Turkey said he was strangled immediately after entering the consulate and his body dismembered "in accordance with plans made in advance".

Once an adviser to the Saudi royal family, Khashoggi fell out of favour with the government previous year and went into self-imposed exile.

The crown prince stated Khashoggi was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, prior to Saudi Arabia formally acknowledging it was responsible for the journalist's death.

Pompeo's remarks come after Istanbul's chief prosecutor, Irfan Fidan, gave the most detailed official account of the killing so far on Wednesday.

Rosenberg, who wrote an opinion piece praising Salman as a reformer in late August for Fox News, led the delegation, which included Christian media leaders and several of Trump's unofficial evangelical advisers.

"The UK needs to completely re-appraise its relationship with Saudi Arabia, moving on from its failed softly-softly "engagement" approach to one where ministers raise human rights openly and frankly with their counterparts in Riyadh".

Instead of backing off Prince Mohammed, the USA hopes to capitalize on what it regards as new leverage with Saudi Arabia to end the brutal civil war in Yemen and ease a regional standoff with Qatar, according to multiple United States and diplomatic officials.

Netanyahu addressed the issue while talking to reporters on Friday on a visit to Bulgaria. Riyadh assured that it is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and announced that some 18 Saudi citizens had already been arrested in connection with the case.
