In Historic Move, Florida Approves Automatically Restoring Voting Rights To Felons

Voters on Tuesday approved Amendment 4, which says that most felons will automatically have their voting rights restored when they complete their sentences or go on probation.

The Florida Constitution Revision Commission has labeled the ballot initiative as an "environmental amendment" that promotes clean air and clean water.

Most Florida felons who have finished their sentences will be able to vote again in future elections.

"'Kol hakavod' to the Reform Jewish communities in Florida - and across the USA - who organized and mobilized to make this happen", the national Religious Action Center said on Twitter, using the Hebrew term for "well done". If another million people are added to the voter rolls, it could affect the balance of power in a state largely controlled by Republicans on the state level.

A number of major Jewish philanthropists contributed to the campaign, including George Soros, Seth Klarman and Stacy Schusterman.

"Today, when democratic values are on the defensive worldwide", he said, "Florida voters made a resoundingly clear statement that the state's shameful lifetime ban on voting is not consistent with the values of democracy". In 2016, 21 percent of African-Americans were disenfranchised, according to The Sentencing Project. One out of every 13 African-Americans in the USA has lost their voting rights due to felony disenfranchisement laws, compared to one in every 56 non-black voters, the Sentencing Project report said. "If you are a convicted felon, part of what you did is you lost your rights", Governor Scott argued earlier, going on to defend the appeal process which was already in place.

Darren Fletcher: 'Paul Pogba not disciplined'
It was something in training. "We know what Paul Pogba is capable of and Marcus Rashford has the pace to cause anyone problems". He needs these two days to see.

In 2011, Gov. Rick Scott changed the process by requiring residents to wait five to seven years to apply.

It seems both obvious and astonishing: No one who will benefit from Amendment 4 voted for it.

The implications for the state's elections are enormous.

Florida has voted in favor of restoring felons' voting rights automatically on Tuesday night.

Florida's felony disenfranchisement laws were, like those in many other states, a vestige of the its racist 19th century "Black Codes", which attempted to systematically criminalize freed slaves following the Civil War, and then bar them from voting.

According to the Florida state department, roughly 13 million citizens are registered to vote, with both Republicans and Democrats having almost 5 million party members each.
