According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Phoenix Suns are in the process of buying out the veteran. He signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the Suns in July 2015.

Chandler will bring the Lakers some badly-needed depth to the center position. He was a one-time defensive player of the year, as well as an All Star during his three impressive years with the Knicks. However, it wasn't official until Saturday when Chandler and his representatives found a new home with the Lakers. The Lakers rank No. 21 in the league in defensive efficiency. At 36, Chandler is no longer the dominant defender who played a key role in the Dallas Mavericks' 2011 championship run. In seven games this season, Chandler has averaged just 14.2 minutes per game. He will sign a one-year deal with the team for the rest of the season.

As @TheSteinLine reports, center Tyson Chandler is getting a buyout with the Suns and will become a free agent upon clearing waivers. And he's appeared in 1,086 games, which is 10th most among all active National Basketball Association players. Chandler had a game-winning alley-oop dunk for the Suns in a game previous year as time expired, so he knows exactly how its run.

Signing Chandler doesn't necessarily preclude the Lakers from targeting another center down the road, and they could waive little-used Michael Beasley to create another roster spot. But the urgency of the situation amid their slow start surely forced the Lakers to make a move sooner than they wanted.

This is a win for both the Lakers and Tyson Chandler.
