Reports from earlier in the season suggested Bell needed to sign with the team by November 13 if he wanted to retain his free agent eligibility following the season.

The Steelers president said Thursday on Sirius XM Radio that he expects running back Le'Veon Bell to report to the team this week.

The collective bargaining agreement mandates that any player on a contract or on a tender must report by the Tuesday after the 10th week of the season if he wants to play that year. Counting the weeks missed, he has officially lost out on $8.52 million worth of earnings. Bell has been working out in Miami this season, but on Monday he tweeted "Fairwell Miami" without further explanation. Bell remains absent from the team, though it was believed he would join the team following its upcoming game against Carolina. Whether or not he reports this season, the Steelers would need to use a $25 million franchise tag to keep him in 2019, which is not expected to happen.

Bell may be away from the team, but his absence doesn't mean he's ignoring the progress of the Steelers while he continues to be a no-show.

This weekend, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed Bell's holdout when he told ESPN's Dianna Russini during a pregame interview that Pittsburgh needs "volunteers, not hostages". Bell already has played the four-plus seasons he needs to become a free agent after the season. "So, there are questions that we may get to at the end of the season".
